India and Singapore held a virtual discussion on 20 April 2020 to take forward the process of the Joint Ministerial Roundtable (JMR). The JMR was initiated in 2019 to promote the bilateral partnership between India and Singapore and to further explore ways to deepen the ties between the two countries.
The discussion was held between the Indian Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S Jaishankar and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan. The two ministers discussed the developments in the bilateral ties and the progress made in the JMR process. They also discussed ways to further enhance the strategic partnership between India and Singapore.
The ministers expressed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral ties and to promoting regional peace and stability. They also expressed their support for the regional economic integration and for the implementation of the ASEAN-led regional and global economic initiatives. They expressed their support for the regional connectivity initiatives, including the development of the digital economy.
The ministers also discussed the progress made in the implementation of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA). They agreed to continue to work together to promote regional economic integration and to further enhance the trade and investment relations between India and Singapore.
