Tanzania’s first female president, Samia Suluhu Hassan, is on an official visit to South Africa. She is set to meet with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional issues.
The visit is seen as a key moment in the history of Tanzania, and a sign of the country’s commitment to promoting gender equality. President Hassan is the first female head of state in East Africa.
The two leaders are expected to discuss trade, investment, and collaboration in the areas of health, education and infrastructure. They will also review the progress of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which came into force in January 2021.
President Hassan is accompanied by a delegation of high-level officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, and the Minister of Education.
