After 48 years, a Scottish woman retrieves her baby son’s body from the hospital.

This is a heartbreaking story. A Scottish woman named Joanna Jones has just retrieved her son’s body from a hospital in Glasgow after 48 years apart. Her son, Steven, was born with a serious heart defect in 1972 and died shortly after birth. But due to a mix-up in the hospital records, Joanna was never told the truth about her son’s death, and he was buried in an unmarked grave.

It wasn’t until 2020, when Joanna requested her son’s medical records, that she finally learned the truth. She was then able to locate her son’s grave and arrange for his body to be exhumed and transferred to her family plot in Dumfries.

Joanna said that the past 48 years without knowing what had happened to her son had been “devastating”, and that it had taken a long time for her to be able to accept the truth. But with the help of her family, she was finally able to lay her son to rest in a place he can be remembered.
