According to reports, one person was killed and seven others were wounded when Russian-led forces shelled the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk Oblast region of eastern Ukraine on Saturday.
The shelling, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, targeted a residential area of the city, damaging several homes.
The Ukrainian military said that the shelling was part of a larger offensive by the Russian-led forces in the region, which is part of the ongoing conflict between Russian-backed separatists and the Ukrainian government.
The Ukrainian military also reported that the separatists had fired rockets, mortars and artillery at several other cities in the region, including Krasnohorivka and Mariupol.
The death toll from the shelling is expected to rise and the Ukrainian government has urged citizens to remain in their homes and exercise caution.
