The Government of Pakistan is reportedly considering declaring the political party of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a “proscribed” outfit.
According to reports, the Ministry of Interior has prepared a report to present before Prime Minister Imran Khan in this regard. The report suggests that the government should declare the party of the prime minister as a “proscribed” outfit, which will make it illegal to be a part of it or to participate in any of its activities.
The reports further suggest that the government’s move is based on the fear that PTI’s activities are being used as a platform to spread hate speech and to incite violence.
The move is being seen as a way to control the controversial activities of the party, which have been criticized by many. The government has also been accused of using the party as a tool to control the media and to suppress dissenting voices.
It is unclear at this stage if the government will go ahead with the plan or not.
