What is the Serbia-Kosovo peace treaty to normalise relations?

News

The Serbia-Kosovo peace deal is a historic agreement between Serbia and Kosovo, signed on September 4, 2020, designed to normalize relations between the two countries after a long period of conflict. Under the terms of the agreement, Serbia recognized Kosovo as an independent country and agreed to open diplomatic ties, establish economic ties, and cooperate on regional security issues. Serbia also agreed to fund Kosovo’s infrastructure and to strengthen the rights of the Serbian minority living in Kosovo. In exchange, Kosovo recognized the autonomy of Serbia’s Serb-majority areas and agreed to establish a court to try war crimes committed during the war.

The agreement also provides for a mutual recognition of identity documents and free movement of people across both countries.
