Elon Musk Receives A Sharp Retort On Twitter Censorship In Turkey From Wikipedia Founder

News

Jimmy Wales, the co-founder of Wikipedia, responded sharply to Elon Musk’s suggestion that Twitter should not be censored in Turkey. After Musk tweeted that he was “against censorship of any kind” and that “Twitter should not be banned in Turkey,” Wales responded by saying that “Twitter is already blocked in Turkey, and the idea of forcing a US company to break the law to serve an audience in another country is wrong.” Wales went on to say that he was “perplexed” by Musk’s suggestion, as it ran counter to Wikipedia’s policy of not providing content to countries that have blocked it. He concluded by saying that instead of trying to force Twitter to break the law, the US should focus on helping to open up the internet in Turkey.
