Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has rubbished reports of his death, saying he is “alive and healthy”.
The 88-year-old Hungarian-American investor was the subject of a false report claiming he had passed away at his home in London.
The hoax first originated on Twitter and was shared widely on other social media platforms.
Soros’ spokesperson, Michael Vachon, has strongly denied the report. Vachon said: “It’s ridiculous, he’s alive and well and enjoying his family and his work.”
Soros himself also spoke out against the false report, saying: “I am alive and healthy and I am enjoying my family and my work.”
The hoax follows a similar false report of the death of another billionaire investor, Warren Buffett, in October 2020.
Soros is known for his philanthropy and is the founder of the Open Society Foundations, a network of foundations, partners, and projects in more than 120 countries. He is also a major donor to progressive causes, including the Democratic Party in the US.
