Mahinda Rajapaksa’s rumoured reappointment as prime minister is denied by Sri Lanka’s ruling party

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) party has denied reports that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will reappoint his brother, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as Prime Minister.

“The SLPP has not discussed any such matter,” SLPP spokesman Dullas Alahapperuma said in a statement released on Thursday.

“The party has not taken any decision to appoint any individual as Prime Minister,” Alahapperuma said.

The statement came in response to reports that President Rajapaksa was considering reappointing his brother as Prime Minister.

The SLPP said it will continue to work with the government to implement the policies and programmes of President Rajapaksa.
