Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, was detained on November 17th, 2020, in Lagos, Nigeria, on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. According to local reports, Seun Kuti was detained after an altercation with the police officer at a checkpoint. He was released shortly after but was asked to report to the Area J Police Command in Ogba.
Kuti is a vocal critic of the Nigerian government and has been an outspoken advocate for human rights in the country. He is the leader of Egypt 80, the band founded by his father, and has released several solo albums.
