The US District Court’s decision to grant India’s request to extradite Pakistani-Canadian national and 26/11 attack-accused Tahawwur Rana is a “great victory” for the country, renowned prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam has said.
Nikam, who was the special public prosecutor in the 26/11 attack case, said the US court order was the result of dedicated efforts by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“It is a great victory for India. It is the result of the dedicated efforts of NIA, CBI and other investigating agencies,” he said.
Rana, who had been charged in the US for providing material support to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, was arrested in 2009 for his alleged role in the 26/11 terror attacks.
He was extradited to India in October last year and is currently in judicial custody.
Nikam said the extradition of Rana will help India in getting the first-hand information about the conspiracy related to the 26/11 attack.
