After a seven-year struggle for freedom, al-Qaida in Africa liberated kidnapped Australian Dr. Ken Elliott


On January 9, 2019, Australian doctor Ken Elliott was released from al-Qaida captivity after being held in West Africa for seven years. During his captivity, Elliott endured abuse and isolation, but despite his suffering he remained an outspoken advocate for his freedom.

He was released after negotiations between al-Qaida and a group of Australian and African mediators. Elliott has since returned to his home in southern Australia and is now resiliently going forward with his life.
