Following the shooting death of a radio journalist in Lesotho, the government of Lesotho has ordered an indefinite nationwide curfew beginning Monday, October 12.
The curfew will be from 7PM to 6AM, and will apply to both citizens and non-citizens. The country’s Prime Minister said that this order was put in place to prevent further violence.
The Minister of Communications, acting on behalf of the government, has also ordered the closure of media companies until further notice.
Journalist Mothepu Mahapa was shot and killed as he was returning home from his workplace at a radio station in Lesotho.
The Lesotho government has condemned the killing and has set up a committee to investigate the incident. The government stated that it will take all necessary steps to ensure justice is served and to protect freedom of the press.
