Tibetans have been requesting the return of the Panchen Lama for 28 years.

Tibetans around the world have continued to pray for the safe return of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, who has been missing for 28 years.

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, was officially identified and recognised by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on 14 May 1995 and shortly thereafter, disappeared and has not been known where he is held in or heard of since then.

The Tibetans around the world and their community organisations have continued to till date to call for his immediate release as well as for verification of his well being and for his safe return to his family and community.

In honour of the 28th anniversary of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima’s disappearance, a commemorative event was held in Dharamsala on Saturday, 14th May, 2021. While expressing strong condemnation to the Chinese government’s abhorrent violations of Tibetans’ human rights and religious freedom, the event concluded with participants reciting prayers for His Holiness the Panchen Lama’s safe return in unison.
