Belarusian authorities recently pardoned opposition blogger Siarhei Pikul and released him from prison. Pikul was arrested in 2019 for participating in demonstrations against the Belarusian government.
His pardon was the result of a clemency petition by the Belarusian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations with the support of many campaigns for human rights and democracy. Upon his release, Pikul’s lawyer noted his enthusiasm for renewed freedom and his commitment to continue the fight for freedom and justice in Belarus.
