Activists from the Italian climate change campaign group Articolo 23 recently painted the fountain of Neptune in the Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna, Italy as a dramatic symbol of the impact of climate change on the world‘s oceans. The fountain, which dates from the 16th century, was painted in shades of blue and white to symbolise the bleaching of coral reefs due to rising water temperatures, and activists added a scroll inscribed with the message “It‘s time to wake up“ to emphasise the urgency of tackling climate change. The group said it was a symbol of “the urgency with which we must respond to the crisis in the oceans“.
