Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with leaders of the Pacific Islands nations in the margins of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit in Suva, Fiji on Thursday, August 19, 2019. The leaders discussed enhancing collaboration in fields like renewable energy, maritime security, education, health, disaster management and trade.

The Prime Minister said that India stands ready to take its cooperation with Pacific island nations to the next level. He expressed India’s readiness to work together to combat the ocean-related challenges such as climate change, marine pollution, etc.

The FIPIC Summit is taking place from August 19-21. It is the third such summit, after the first two were held in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014 and in Jaipur, India in 2015. The event was attended by leaders of 14 Pacific Island nations including Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
