The two-day G20 summit is set to begin in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir today amid tight security. Over two dozen world leaders, including US President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian President Vladimir Putin, have been invited to attend the event.
The summit is being organised by the G20, or Group of 20 nations, to discuss a range of key global economic issues. The discussion topics will include global economic stability, emerging market and developing countries, job creation, financial inclusion, sustainable energy and food security, among others.
Ahead of the summit, a number of security measures have been put in place in Srinagar. The entire city is under heavy security cover. Thousands of paramilitary personnel, local police forces and members of the Indian army have been deployed across the city to ensure security during the summit.
The world leaders are expected to arrive in Srinagar this evening and stay in a luxury hotel located near the summit venue. The summit will officially begin tomorrow morning.
