According to local officials, a child was killed and another was injured in a mine blast in Ghazni province in Afghanistan. The incident occurred in the Dashti Archi district on the afternoon of April 7. The child was injured while collecting firewood in the area and a mine exploded. The injured child was taken to hospital for treatment but the child died from the injuries.
The U.S. military has yet to comment on the incident. However, it is believed that the mine had been placed by the Taliban as the group has used such tactics in the past to target civilians. Afghan officials have urged the U.S. and its allied forces to remove such mines and unexploded ordnance from the areas that it previously occupied in the country.
