Kurt Cobain’s destroyed Fender Stratocaster guitar sells for about $5 million

The smashed Fender Stratocaster guitar played by late Nirvana frontman and rock icon Kurt Cobain during the band’s legendary 1993 MTV Unplugged performance sold for almost ₹5 crore ($6.8 million) at auction in California.

The 1959 Martin D-18E acoustic-electric, which had visible marks of Cobain having smashed the instrument on stage after performing Nirvana’s 1992 song “Rape Me,” was the top-selling piece in an auction of music memorabilia organized by Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. The previous record was ₹4.3 crore which was held by another Cobain-owned, smashed Fender Stratocaster guitar.
