U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) has officially launched his bid for the U.S. presidency in 2020.
Tim Scott was born in North Charleston, South Carolina in 1965 and graduated from Charleston Southern University in 1988. He was initially elected to the South Carolina State House in 1992 before continuing his political career in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013.
Since 2013, Scott has served as a U.S. Senator from his home state, being only the second African American to do so. Prior to his offical campaign announcement, Scott was quoted as saying, “My life has not just been about public service. It’s been about impact.”
As a candidate, Scott hopes to focus on economic growth, criminal justice reform, and education. He supports lower taxes, strong border security, traditional values, and protecting the 2nd Amendment. In addition, Scott is a strong supporter of President Donald Trump and vocal advocate for conservative positions.
Scott is married to his high school sweetheart, Gloria, and they have two children.
