Sensex is up over 62,000 points at the opening bell, and the Nifty is above 18,000

The Sensex opened in the positive territory on Thursday driven by gains in banking and auto stocks.

At 9:17 am, the 30-share BSE index was up 248.20 points or 0.40 percent, at 62,211.27, while the broader NSE Nifty was trading up 79.85 points or 0.44percent, at 18,027.35.

Major gainers in the Sensex pack were SBI, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, M&M, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Vedanta and Axis Bank, rising up to 2.75 percent.

On the other hand, losers included Sun Pharma, Nestle India, Titan, ONGC and Asian Paints, shedding up to 0.72 percent.

Sectorally, gains in banking, metal, auto and realty stocks lifted the indices, while IT and FMCG stocks came under pressure.

On the NSE platform, the top gainers were Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, Adani Power, IndusInd Bank, M&M and Bajaj Finance, while the top losers were Britannia, Sun Pharma, Nestle India, GAIL and Titan.
