Netflix has confirmed that it has started to crack down on password sharing in the UK. The streaming giant has rolled out an update that now blocks usernames and passwords being shared with others, even within households. Previously, only subscribers in the US were affected.
The update requires users to have their own profile with a unique login. This means no more sharing one account across multiple devices, as each will require a separate login.
Furthermore, Netflix is also disabling third-party password recycling websites, where users can buy cheap, recycled usernames and passwords from previous subscribers.
The new measures are being seen as an attempt by Netflix to protect its content from widespread piracy, as well as maximizing its revenue from subscribers.
