Japan: suspect nabbed following Nagano gun and stabbing attack that left four people dead

A suspect has been detained after four people were killed in a shooting and stabbing attack in Nagano, Japan.

The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was apprehended by police early on Tuesday morning after officers responded to reports of shots fired and multiple stabbings at an apartment complex in the western Japanese prefecture.

Four people were found dead at the scene, and three others were taken to hospital with stab wounds. It is believed they were all members of the same family.

Reports indicate that the suspect was a former tenant of the apartment building, which may have been the scene of a domestic dispute.

The victims are believed to have been three generations of the same family, made up of a grandmother, a grandfather, their adult daughters, and a young granddaughter.

Police are still investigating the incident and questioning the suspect. It is not yet known if there was any specific motive for the attack.
