Chevron, the second largest oil company in the United States, has expressed a positive assessment of plans by Israel and Cyprus to build a pipeline and a natural gas processing plant. According to reports, Chevron Vice Chairman George Kirkland noted that the company was assessing the economic viability of the project, and offered his encouragement. He said it was a positive development for the region and that the project could help to promote energy security and economic growth in the area. The planned pipeline is expected to link natural gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean with Israel, and would also provide an export outlet for Cyprus’ own native energy resources.
