Opening bell: The Sensex declines as morning trade begins, extending losses

The Indian equity market opened lower on Friday morning as investors reacted to weak global cues and concerns over rising crude oil prices. The S&P BSE Sensex dropped more than 80 points in early morning trade, while the Nifty50 index fell to 13,030 levels.

Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Coal India, HDFC, and ICICI Bank were the top losers on Sensex, while Bharti Airtel, ITC, Maruti Suzuki, HUL, and Asian Paints were the major gainers.

The Indian rupee opened 17 paise higher at 71.90 against the US dollar.
