A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck Tajikistan on Wednesday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake hit at a shallow depth of 11.4 km (7.1 miles) in the central part of the country near the border with Kyrgyzstan.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. Earthquake tremors were felt in parts of northern Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, but there were no reports of damage in either country.

Tajikistan is in an active seismic belt and is regularly hit by moderate to strong quakes. In July, a 5.5-magnitude quake struck the region. In October last year, a 6.2-magnitude quake caused significant destruction in parts of the country.
